چکیده

—LTE Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) to unlicensed spectrum has been considered as an effective complement in offloading growing traffic since its emergence at 3GPP. Since 2015, 3GPP has launched standardization to develop LAA as a key technology for LTE-Advanced unlicensed spectrum deployment in Rel-13. In this paper, an analytical model is built for the performance evaluation of typical coexistence of Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) LTE and WiFi IEEE 802.11. Assuming that LAA eNode-B performs Channel Clear Assessment (CCA) in a manner similar to Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) of WiFi, we use a two dimensional Markov chain to help analyzing not only the affected performance of WiFi but also the relation between the joint system performance and LAA maximum transmission time. After analytical analysis and simulations, it is shown that under certain system configuration joint system performance is approximately inversely proportional to a monomial of the maximum LAA transmission time.

ORLA/OLAA: Orthogonal Coexistence of LAA and WiFi in Unlicensed Spectrum

Future mobile networks will exploit unlicensed spectrum to boost capacity and meet growing user demands costeffectively. The 3GPP has recently defined a Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) scheme to enable global Unlicensed LTE (U-LTE) deployment, aiming at (i) ensuring fair coexistence with incumbent WiFi networks, i.e., impacting on their performance no more than another WiFi device, and (ii) achi...

Mobile Heterogeneous Telecommunications Networks Coexistence in Unlicensed Bands

Mobile communication networks are constantly evolving and each new generation provides considerably higher data transmission capabilities. Having in mind predictions of high cellular data traffic growth over the next few years, it is clear that the licensed band communications would have problems to support such a high bandwidth demand. One of the possible solutions to this problem is to adapti...

Analytical Modeling of Wi-Fi and LTE-LAA Coexistence: Throughput and Impact of Energy Detection Threshold

With both small-cell LTE and Wi-Fi networks available as alternatives for deployment in unlicensed bands (notably 5 GHz), the investigation into their coexistence is a topic of active interest, primarily driven by industry groups. 3GPP has recently standardized LTE Licensed Assisted Access (LTE-LAA) that seeks to make LTE more co-existence friendly with Wi-Fi by incorporating similar sensing an...

Uplink performance enhancement for LTE licensed-assisted access to unlicensed spectrum

Licensed-assisted access (LAA) is a new operation mode of carrier aggregation for the Long Term Evolution Advanced systems to transmit data on both licensed and unlicensed spectrum. To deal with the issue of co-existence with WiFi systems, LAA is required to perform listen-before-talk, which can significantly impact its resource utilization. In this paper, the concept called multi-subframe sche...
